"Are You Still in Business?"

By Kevin Clune, CLP, President and Owner of Clune & Company, a Kansas City based leasing firm

"Are you still in business?" was the question from a caller just last week. "You know these are crazy times, and I just wanted to be sure."

He was so right about the strange times we are experiencing. We are actually getting calls like this every week, both from vendors and lessees.

That particular caller is a business owner that had used Clune a few years ago to finance some new equipment and finds himself back in the market again to update his technology. He commented that he had been pleased with our service in the past and felt he had been treated fairly by our company.

YES, we are still in business and we have lots of capacity. This is very different than the norm in our industry which has seen a record number of leasing company closures. Many of those still open are greatly diminished in their ability to fund new deals.

Clune has seen many economic fluctuations since my Father started the business in 1957. This one is easily one of the more challenging but we feel confident in the resilience of the American economy. We also feel that a much larger than average percentage of equipment sales this year will be leased or financed. This is due to the fact that almost everyone’s budget has been tightened and the majority of American businesses have had their lines of credit reduced or restricted.

A Lease is more than a piece of paper binding two parties to an equipment contract; it is a ticket for a business owner to grow, improve, serve, and succeed in achieving goals. It represents the real life livelihood of our customers.

Please remember to call us before signing a lease with anyone else for capital equipment. Thanks for your support!
