Behind the Scenes at Clune & Company
The Leasing business is not a location dependent industry and, as such, many of our customers have never come through our doors and personally met the Clune team. With vendors and clients on both coasts, and many in between, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves.
Our company name is the surname of the founder of our business, Robert E. Clune, who was a salesman for IBM in the 1950’s, and upon determining the need for leasing, opened the business in 1957. With his sales experience, knowledge of the industry, and a strong commitment to ethical business standards, “Bob” grew his company into a highly regarded source of equipment financing. The bulk of the collateral in his portfolio in the early days was IBM Equipment. “Let your equipment pay for itself”, was the adage he communicated to his customers.
Bob’s oldest son, KEVIN F. CLUNE, became an employee in 1973. With an efficiently sized staff, each person wore many hats and Kevin quickly learned all facets of the industry. Primarily an outside salesperson, Kevin became well known among many of the local customers, and became aware of their needs. Copiers and office related equipment was the bread and butter of many of their leases at this time. Almost twenty years later, Kevin partnered with Mark Henke to become the primary owner of the Company.
Mr. Henke left the business in 1999, and Kevin Clune and I (his wife, Mary Kay), are now the sole owners of this 51 year old business. I have worked in various roles on a part time basis, serving as receptionist, marketing associate, and administrative assistant. Kevin & I are very honored and proud to have many dedicated and long tenured employees on the Clune team.
The Assistant Coach is an indispensible component of any team, mediating between the players and the head coach. TRACY GALVIN, currently our Vice President of Operations, has filled this vital role. Ms. Galvin joined Clune & Company as a Lender in 1999 and had worked in the leasing industry for 12 years prior to coming to Clune. Ms. Galvin was promoted to Director of Operations in 2006, and in July of 2008, became Vice President of Operations. In addition to working directly with customers on lease contracts, she also oversees and manages job responsibilities, processes, and all human resource related duties. The demands of any assistant coach include encouraging your players, acting as mediator and liaison, with a receptive ear to all entities inside and outside the office. The values she learned from being a member of a large and close family are evident in her interactions with all the team members at Clune, as well as the customers we serve.
I wanted to take this opportunity to also introduce you to Keith Wallace, our longest tenured employee at Clune other than Kevin Clune. Mr. Wallace, who joined Clune in 1981, has the distinction of having worked for both Bob and Kevin. With his valuable knowledge of lease finance services, an understanding of loan structure, and master of payment schedules, Keith could be referred to as our Team Mentor. The technology revolution that transformed business processes also affected the leasing industry. Keith mastered and adapted well to the introduction of computers as a tool implemented internally to make the lease transaction more efficient and also as a product that Clune financed for many of their clients. Computers were uniquely suited to the lease finance structure, due to the ability for the customer to upgrade more easily with a lease than with outright purchase. Keith is truly behind the scenes managing the financial apparatus of the business, and has been integral to Clune’s ability to offer professional services and trustworthy lease finance products. Unfortunately, Keith will be retiring in 2009, and will be giving his full attention to his golf game and his family, especially his young granddaughters.
Thanks so much for allowing us to introduce some of our current team members and trusting Clune & Company with your equipment finance needs for over 50 years.
Meet the players on the field in the next E-Blast.
